Gold Fields is one of the largest private sector companies in Ghana, controlling 90% of both the Tarkwa and Damang gold mines.

The Government of Ghana owns the remaining 10% through a free-carry interest. Gold Fields took over the Tarkwa mine from the State Gold Mining Company in 1993 and acquired Damang mine in 2002.

Gold Fields contributes significantly to the development of the country through job creation, taxes and royalties, community and infrastructure investments, as well as local procurement and enterprise development.

2024 Ghana Mining Industry Awards

Gold Fields’ Tarkwa and Damang mines were recognised with four awards at the 10th Ghana Mining Industry Awards, organised by the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

Damang Mine picked up the awards for Best Performer in Environmental Management, Best Green Mine and was the 2nd runner up for Best Performer in Innovation. The Tarkwa Mine was the 1st runner up for the Best Performer in Local Content.

The awards are a recognition of Gold Fields’ outstanding commitment to environmental stewardship, sustainability, innovative approaches and local development.

Gold Fields Ghana Limited (Tarkwa Mine) was ranked number 2 in Ghana and within the extractive industry while Abosso Goldfields Limited (Damang Mine) was ranked 12 at the prestigious Ghana Club 100 Awards (GC100).

This remarkable achievement is further bolstered by the company's recognition as the 1st runner up for the Best CSR Company and 2nd ranked Company in the Extractive (petroleum and mining) sector. These achievements underline Gold Fields' unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable practices, showcasing the positive impact the company has on both its host communities and the country.
