Joshua Eduful, a Gold Fields Ghana Foundation scholarship beneficiary, has been awarded a full scholarship by the Wright State University in the USA to study MSc Biological Sciences.
The programme starts in September 2021. Joshua was also offered full scholarship by the Georgia State University and the East Tennessee State University.
“I’m going to study Astroviruses and Noroviruses, and these viruses are known to cause diarrhea and vomiting. Such a research can help in engineering therapies and that will be a great impact,” said Joshua Eduful.
Joshua shares his inspiring story
Joshua graduated with First Class Honours in BSc Biochemistry from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in 2020. He went on to do his national service at the Department of Biochemistry at UCC.
“Joshua came to my laboratory when he was in final year for his undergraduate project. Getting such a scholarship from even one [university] is very competitive. For Joshua to earn three of them, that shows his unparalleled academic prowess,” said Dr Samuel Abassah-Oppong, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry of the UCC.
The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation funded Joshua's secondary and tertiary education from 2012 to 2020. Following the award of the scholarship by the Wright State University, the Foundation supported Joshua with almost GHS19,000 to cover his travel expenses to the USA.
Joshua is an intelligent young man from Menhuttem, one of the host communities of the Damang Mine.
