The Mining team at Abosso Goldfields Limited (Damang mine) won the Quarter 2 GM’s Quarterly Safety Award with a record-breaking score of 190.2.
The team’s score is the highest recorded since the safety award was introduced in January 2021. The award measures safety engagement and intervention reporting, hazard identification and reporting, as well as hazard closure and zero injury. Each department is scored on these indicators every quarter.
"The safety award recognises and celebrates our various teams for their safety performance and commitment. It also reinforces our zero-harm objective," said John Kwasi Adingelah, Acting HSE Manager for Damang mine.
The Mining Department’s safety performance has improved over the past two quarters and the team has vowed to maintain the momentum.
"We have been consistent with our safety performance, improving our scores each quarter. We are now more determined to continue working safely to retain the safety champion title," noted Samuel Hadjor, Acting Mining Manager for Damang Mine.
"This is a remarkable performance by the mining team. To win and set a safety record at the same time is admirable and worth celebrating. Undoubtedly, the safety award is helping us build a positive safety culture as we continue to witness improvement in safety engagement and hazard reporting," said Charles Kofi Nti, Acting General Manager for Damang mine.
The GM’s Quarterly Safety Award is one of several interventions to improve safety behaviour and performance at the mine.
