The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has organised an entrepreneurship workshop to equip community apprentices with relevant commercial skills to enable them to better manage their own businesses.
The training focused on business management, financial literacy, leadership and communication skills, as well as regulatory compliance. These are essential tools that will empower the apprentices as they start up their own enterprises and practice their trades in a competitive business environment.
Twenty-nine (29) apprentices, including 15 females, participated in the workshop, which was held in October 2024 at the New Training School at the Tarkwa mine.
The workshop is a key aspect of the Foundation’s two-year mine apprenticeship programme, that offers young people in the host communities with vocational skills training in welding and fabrication.
The apprenticeship programme started in 2022 and is facilitated by the Learning and Development section of the People Function. The first cohort will complete their training in December 2024.
