The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has handed over a 40,000-litre water facility to the Fiaseman Senior High School at Tarkwa.

The facility, which was constructed at a cost of US$17,000, will ensure improved access to clean water for students and staff.

The small-town water supply system has been directly connected to the girls' and boy's dormitories to ensure reliable water supply to the students.

During a ceremony to commemorate World Water Day, Abdel-Razak Yakubu, Executive Secretary of the Foundation, noted that water & sanitation was one of the priority areas of the Foundation and received a sizeable portion of its investment.

He added that the improved access to water will enhance hygiene and ensure a more conducive learning environment for students.

Catherine Andoh-Mensah, the Municipal Education Director, expressed appreciation to the Foundation for its support. Nana Nda, the Gyaasehene of Bankyim, also reiterated the importance of clean water in the community and encouraged more of such initiatives to further improve access to potable water.

The project, one of seven water initiatives being carried out by the Foundation this year, was constructed by a local contractor - Precision Wells Ghana Limited.

The Foundation has constructed 153 small-town water supply systems, pump-fitted boreholes and hand-dug wells in the host communities.
